Yahweh Shammah
Ezekiel 48:35
THE GOD WE NEED
Day 17: Yahweh Shammah
The Gardener
"And the name of the city from that time on will be: THE LORD IS THERE." (Ezekiel 48:35, NIV)
🌾
There is a need that surfaces in seasons of exile, when home feels far away, or gone altogether. The move that uprooted everything familiar. The loss that left a place empty where someone used to be. The sense of not belonging anywhere in particular. And quietly, a question rises. Is God even present in this unfamiliar place?
🌱
Ezekiel wrote these words to a people in exile, far from Jerusalem, far from the temple, far from everything that once told them God was near. Their city lay in ruins. Their old certainties were gone. And into that displacement, God gave a promise disguised as an address. The name of the new city, the very last word of the entire book, would simply be, The LORD Is There. Yahweh Shammah.
Shammah means there, present, not absent even in exile. It answers the deepest fear of displaced people everywhere, that distance from the familiar means distance from God Himself.
🌻
This is how He meets the need to know He has not been left behind in the place you came from. He does not remain fixed to a temple, a city, a former season of your life. Wherever you are standing right now, however unfamiliar it feels, He is there.
Exile did not separate Israel from God. It simply relocated the place where His presence would be known.
Wherever you are, that is where He is.
🌿
Prayer
Yahweh Shammah, You who are there, meet me in this unfamiliar place. Let me know Your presence has not stayed behind. Amen.
